Let's Get Catty...     Gossip, Gossip, Gossip!

Pup-cast

Dah-lings, it might be hard to feel sorry for Clyde, the canine star of Marley & Me, which has been tops at the box office for two weeks in a row.  But even though he’s been winning over the hearts of America in this schmaltzy tearjerker, it doesn’t look as though Clyde will be taking on other film roles anytime soon. According to his trainer Mathilde DeCagny, the golden lab isn’t exactly being flooded with scripts. Why? Speaking for Clyde, DeCagny said, “He’s not going to have another big feature like this, because once they have such a permanent part, they get typecast.” Ah-ha, it seems that performing pooches, just like human actors, can become victims of their own pup-ularity! So what’s next for the dashing dog? Decagny says, “He’ll just be my pet.”

Wagging Tongues . . and Tails

So what’s the juiciest gossip on the Gossip Girl set these days?  I’ll give you a hint, it involves co-stars Leighton Meester and Dreama Walker.  But no –it’s not about them personally, it’s about their pooches. We all know that Meester is frequently spotted with her dog Jack, on set and out and about the Big Apple. But now she might have to get used to holding a second leash, and being a third wheel.  Walker recently spilled to Star Magazine that Jack found his own true love on the set, “Leighton’s dog and my dog, Maggie, are engaged. We’re going to throw them a wedding.” But, the story isn’t over yet, since Leighton, “has been asking me for a dowry,” says Walker. Someone had better act quick if the behind-the-scenes canine relationships are anything like the ones on the show!

Vampire’s Valentine

British actor Robert Pattinson, who plays the main vampire “Edward” in Twilight, recently dished to Seventeen Magazine that there’s only one girl he’ll be sending a Valentine card to: his dog, Patty! The envy of girls the world over, Patty is also one of the things the heartthrob misses the most when he’s traveling around the world, promoting the flick. During a recent layover in London, Pattinson says, “I almost cried because I missed it so much. And I miss my dog.” Sensitive and an animal lover? Is it any wonder he’s so popular?

Move Over, Fido, For Max

Naming the pet after a celebrity might be the rage across the pond, as I’ve mentioned before, but right here in the US, giving a dog or cat an ordinary “people name” seems to be the trend. VPI recently released a list of the top 10 cat and dog names registered with them. Topping both lists is Max. Also high on both lists is Bella, which like many of the other top names, including Sophie and Chloe, has also appeared on the list of most popular baby people names in recent years. Yes I know, dah-lings, you’re probably wondering why my name isn’t on the list, given all my adoring fans, but of course, I am one of a kind!

Pup-idential Debate

Is anybody else good and sick of all the endless hype surrounding the new First Dog, who still doesn’t even exist? The latest to get in on the act is The Daily Show, where host Jon Stewart recently got a little help from CNN’s Anderson Cooper in assessing potential candidates for the position of First Puppy. The spoof quizzed the applicants on their backgrounds and bad habits in a debate style format, even featuring “viewer submitted” questions and a little bit of back-and-forth. The candidates included puppies that looked like a German shepherd, a Pomeranian, a King Charles spaniel, and a rat terrier. According to Stewart, though, the winner was actually Cooper himself. If you ask me, the First Family should use the limelight to show how sensible they are – and get a cat instead!
